Mystic Vessel 4 is a piece of spalted maple that was first harvested and pre-turned by a late friend over 20 years ago, then put away to dry. After his passing, this and other similar small bowls were discarded at first as unusable, but I was able to recover them. The vessel then went through a stabilizing process where the air has been removed from the cells of the wood under vacuum then replaced with a hot pink resin to give this startling look. The color is accepted in certain areas but not in others, leaving parts of the unique, natural grain and the spalting to show through. The final shaping was done and a mirror finish applied.
